A VRF is a function that takes a secret key and an input (called "seed"), and outputs a random value and a proof. The secret key ensures that the random value is unpredictable to anyone who does not know the key, and the proof enables public verification of the random value's correctness.
š²In the context of generating off-chain or hybrid off/on chain randomness, VRF is currently the most secured and widely used method. Although there have been other approaches considered, (To simplify) they have transferred the problem of on-chain generation dependence on miners to another network, creating a dependence on the creators of that network.
