šŸ—£Itā€™s time to dive deeper into the new #ENQroadmap! Let's move to ā€œRandomness trackā€ and point "Off-chain randomness improvementsā€. Verifiable Random Functions (VRFs) are essential tools in cryptography and blockchain technology. They allow for the generation of unpredictable numbers that can be verified by anyone, making them an integral part of many cryptographic protocols. However, VRFs are vulnerable to several types of attacks, which can compromise the security and reliability of the system. In this article, we will explore ways to improve VRFs, with a focus on protecting against collusion and secret key leakage. One of the main challenges with VRFs is preventing miners from manipulating the User seed, which is used to generate random numbers. To address this issue, we propose involving multiple participants with different incentives in creating the User seed. This can help reduce the likelihood of collusion and protect against Miner Extractable Value (MEV) attacks. By doing so, we can ensure that the generated numbers are truly random and cannot be tampered with. However, preventing collusion is only one part of the equation. Another critical aspect is protecting against secret key leakage. If an attacker gains access to the Private key of the generator, they can predict all future random numbers, compromising the security of the system. To mitigate this risk, we propose decentralized VRF on top of Enecuum. The key idea behind this approach is to split the Private key into pieces and distribute them among PoS nodes. This algorithm has already been used for selecting PoS leaders in Enecuum, and we can apply it to VRF as well. By doing so, we can create a secure and decentralized VRF that does not rely on a single point of failure. šŸ”ŗThese improvements can make VRFs more robust and reliable, enhancing their value in cryptography and blockchain technology.
